Manual Metal Arc Welding Advanced - Mild Steel - Pipe to Pipe

Introduction

This course has been designed for persons who are or will be involved in advanced manual metal arc pipe welding.

Objectives

To train course members in the safe use of MMA equipment, advanced basic pipe to pipe welding skills and to make course members aware of potential dangers that can arise by the incorrect use of the equipment.

Aims

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Weld in the overhead and vertical positions
  • Weld to an acceptable standard
  • Recognize faults and causes
  • Rectify faults
  • Select the correct current for the job
  • Select the correct type and size of electrode for the job
  • Prepare pipe joints correctly
  • Lay down a root run to an acceptable standard
  • Lay down single and multi-runs to an acceptable standard
  • Weave to an acceptable standard

  • Safety - Equipment - Personal - Procedures
  • Types of current used - AC/DC
  • Preparation of joints
  • Types of electrodes
  • Correct use of electrodes
  • Correct set-up and tacking procedure
  • Correct technique
  • Correct setting of machine
  • Correct set-up and tacking procedures
  • Single vee butt joint in the vertical and overhead positions
  • Rectification of faults
  • Root run technique
  • Single and multi-run technique
  • Weaving technique
  • Practice to reach an acceptable standard

Course Duration

Five days practical, plus half day theory if required.
