Basic Lighting Planning

Introduction

This course has been designed for engineers who are entering the planning and design field of Building Service Engineering either as a new job or a change of duties. It will benefit people who have no knowledge or concept of the principles of Lighting design. It will also be of benefit where company staff are using computers for design work as the computer is unable to compensate for the inputting of incorrect data.

Aims

The aim of this course is to give the delegate a basic understanding of the fundamentals of Lighting Design. It follows the basic principles and methods of design, glare, direct and indirect lighting, emergency and exterior lighting.

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will have been shown how to:

  • Identify reference sources and units, terms and definitions for Lighting Design.
  • State the various options for designing Lighting Schemes.
  • Discuss Daylight factors, Glare, Zonal Systems and Switching Arrangements.
  • Design for interior and exterior lighting schemes
  • Identify the requirements for Emergency Lighting
