Manual Metal Arc (MMA) Welding - Plate - Basic

Introduction

This course is designed as an introduction course for any person who is or who will be involved with Manual Metal Arc Welding.

Objectives

To train course members in the safe use of MMA equipment and in basic welding skills and make them aware of potential dangers that can arise by the incorrect use of equipment.

Aims

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Weld in the flat position to an acceptable standard
  • Recognize faults and causes
  • Rectify faults
  • Select the correct current and type and size of electrode for the job

The Course Covers

  • Correct Safety procedures - Electrical and Personal Safety
  • Type of current used: AC/DC
  • Recognize types of joints
  • Correct set-up and tacking procedures
  • Types of electrodes
  • Correct setting of machine
  • Correct use of electrodes
  • Correct use of electrode angle
  • Correct set-up and tacking procedures
  • Fillet and lap joints in the flat position
  • Rectification of faults
  • Single run technique
  • Practice to reach an acceptable standard

Course Duration

Depending on facilities available: Two to four days onsite
Five days at one of our centres.
