Safe Use and Inspection of Ladders and Steps

Introduction

There is legislation regarding the Safe use of Ladders and Steps. This course will ensure awareness of such rules.

Objectives

On successful completion of this course, the delegates attending will be able to:-

• Understand the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act, Section 2, 'The Construction (Working Place) Regulations 1966, Regulation 31'.
• Understand the requirements of HSE GS31, 'Safe Use of Steps and Ladders,' BS 2037 'Alloy Ladders and Steps,' BS 1129 'Timber Ladders and Steps'.
• Inspect Ladders and Steps for Patent Defects
• Complete a Ladder Inspection form and to know the Procedure of withdrawing Ladders & Steps from Service
• Demonstrate the safe method of Transport of Steps and Ladders
• Demonstrate the safe use and method of Securing Steps and Ladders
• Understand any Local Management Instructions with regard to Ladders and Steps
