Train the Trainer in Manual Handling and Practical Instructing
Skills
Introduction
This new course is designed for persons who have to train and/or assess those
who are involved in manual handling in the workplace.
Aims
By the end of the course delegates:
- Will be competent in delivering appropriate, effective and accurate manual
handling training.
- Have basic knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics and injury causation.
- Have knowledge of important manual handling issues and risks, and
principles of safe handling.
- Will put the principles learned into practice during manual handling
activities
Objectives
- Develop communication and presentation skills to enable effective theory
and practical training skills for manual handling
- Learn about the national statistics in relation to manual handling
injuries
- Understand the function of the spine, and how unsafe manual handling
techniques can lead to acute and cumulative injuries.
- Become familiar with the different forms of Work Related Upper Limb
Disorders and how to eliminate them
- Adopt ergonomic principles to the workplace and appreciate correct posture
- Have a basic understanding of criminal and common law
- Understand the requirements of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations
1992 and Associated Guidance
- Recognize manual handling hazards within the workplace and have an
understanding of the concept of risk assessment and safe systems of work
- Adopt the safe handling principles associated with kinetics
- Address the need and importance of back care
