Environmental Management (Offshore Version) - interactive CDROM

Increasingly, companies are integrating environmental management systems into their business structures. The introduction of ISO 14001 and the European Community Eco Management & Audit Scheme (EMAS) provide a formal structure for environmental management which can be independently verified.

This allows the international community, insurers, the public and other stakeholders to have confidence that the business unit is meeting its environmental responsibilities.

This course aims to give the user a good understanding of key environmental issues facing offshore installations, and is suitable for all levels of employees.

Course Modules:

  • Introduction - (10 mins)
Considers the damage caused by environmental pollution, focusing on the greenhouse effect and the destruction of the ozone layer. The potential for offshore pollution is also covered.
  • EMAS - (5 mins)
Deals with the main provisions of EMAS.
  • Waste Management - (15 mins)
Looks at emissions to the air, land and water, emphasising the special considerations of off-shore working, and the requirements of The Scottish Environment Protection Agency when waste is returned to shore.
  • Chemical Storage, Handling and Disposal - (10 mins)
Explains how damage to the environment can be prevented by the correct handling, storage and disposal of chemicals.
  • Energy & The Environment - (5 mins)
Examines the impact of energy use on the environment and describes how even small actions by individuals can add up to significant benefits.
  • Benefits From Good Environmental Management - (5 mins)
Considers how reducing waste, re-using and recycling can benefit the environment and result in significant cost savings.
  • Self Test - (10 mins)
    20 multiple choice questions.

The average course completion time is one hour.
