Tungsten Inert Gases (Basic) TIG Aluminium Plate Welding
Introduction
This course has been designed for any person who is or will be involved in
TIG Welding.
Objectives
To train course members in the safe use of the equipment and in basic TIG
welding skills using aluminum plate.
Aims
- To make course members aware of potential dangers that can arise by the
incorrect use of the equipment.
- To be able to set up the equipment safely.
- To be able to weld in the flat position to an acceptable standard.
- To be able to adjust voltage and current to suit work.
- To be able to recognize faults and causes.
- To be able to rectify faults.
- To be able to select the correct size of electrode
- To be able to select the correct size and type of filler rod

- Correct set-up and tacking procedures

- Welding technique
Practical
- Correct safety procedures
- Correct setting of the machine
- Correct use of torch and filler rod angle
- Correct set-up and tacking procedures
- Rectification of faults
- Correct use of foot pedal or torch control
- Fillet and lap joints in the flat position
- Single run technique
- Practice to reach an acceptable standard
