Basic Air Conditioning Planning

Introduction

This course has been design for engineers who are entering the planning and design field of Building Service Engineering either as a new job or a change of duties. It will benefit people who have no knowledge of Ventilation and/or Air Conditioning.

Aims

The aim of the course is to introduce participants to the basic principles of Ventilation and Air Conditioning planning. This will cover the requirements for ventilation as stated by CIBSE and look at the rudiments of planning. It will also look at Air Conditioning and make decisions on whether it is required or not.

It will also be of benefit where company staff are using computers for design work as the computer is unable to compensate for the inputting of incorrect data.

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will have been shown how to:

  • Define the basic principles of air/water mixtures and the movement of air
  • Define Ventilation/Air Conditioning and discuss the effect on the performance of people, buildings and the environment.
  • State the various types of Ventilation/Air Conditioning Systems that are available on the open market.
  • Size and design a system for a simple example
  • List the reference sources that are available to the Air Conditioning Designer
  • All the above objectives will be carried out in accordance with current design standards and practice used throughout the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Industry.

The Course Covers

  • Air/Water Mixtures
  • Reasons for Ventilation/Air Conditioning
  • Types of system available on the open market
  • Carry out a simple design exercise.
