IOSH Managing Safely – CDROM Distance Learning or Online eLearning
The IOSH Managing Safely (CBT) Distance Learning Package assists delegates
in meeting the requirements of the IOSH syllabus and preparing them for
assessment.
The IOSH Managing Safely (CBT) Distance Learning Package is designed for
either a single or multiple user with the facility for the Training Manager
to monitor user progress and achievement.
The package is divided into individual ‘modules’ to mirror the IOSH
syllabus. Each module has its own index, which references the syllabus
content headings.
FULLY INTERACTIVE with optional six month e-mail tutor
support @ £100.
Users are easily able to move between the different
Managing Safety units with the aid of scrollbars and next page buttons;
they may also go back over the pages of information for further reference.
Module 8 within the software deals with the general requirements imposed by
health and safety legislation.
Specific items of legislation are dealt with in the underpinning
knowledge requirements for other topics. Video clips are included where
appropriate. The active time spent in each of the parts is timed by the
software, this time is recorded (in a user’s personal data file) and is
accessible by the user and Training Manager so that progress can be
monitored against suggested study hours. (In order to record study hours
accurately the software monitors when it is actually being used or inactive
while taking a break).
Each module (2-7) is supported by a Multi-Choice Assessment, to check
understanding. Questions are selected at random from a bank of questions
within the software. Each question entry is marked by the software and a
score is given. Success of 70% or more in this section allows users access
to the written answer assessments
Successful completion of three Multi Choice assessments from any of the
Modules 2 to 7 will give access to two further features; Mock IOSH
Assessment and Final IOSH Assessment.
Hazard Spotting exercises (module 5 only) are also available with pictures
being chosen (again from random) from the bank of images within the
software. Users enter ‘hazard observations’ and ‘control actions’ points.
Once they have completed their input, users are able to see the suggested
answer and compare their own observations with the tutor version.
Hazard Spotting Video (module 3 only). Once you have completed all
the modules (1, 2, 4-7), module 3 has an additional tab called Hazard
Spotting Video. Utilises video clips to identify hazards and controls in
workplace situations.
An IOSH Mock Assessment allows users to ‘sit’ a mock assessment under
time constraints. Users will then be able to review the questions, their
comments and the model answers after completing the assessment. Practice at
mock assessments should help users to better manage their time apportionment
and enable success at final assessment.
All data entered, together with timings as appropriate, in the four sections
(Multi-choice, Hazard Spotting, IOSH Mock assessment and Hazard Spotting
Video) is recorded by the program. The times recorded (user’s personal data
file) are also accessible by the Training Manager under password protection
through the Personal User/s History Log. A mirror image of the personal
record may be exported direct to the support tutor if this option is
purchased to ensure the best possible delegate progress management is
provided during the support period.
Registration with IOSH is restricted to 6 months from purchase. The
assessments must be completed within this period. Re-registration fees to IOSH will be required after the expiry of this 6 month period. Students
should aim to work through the software and sit the assessments within 3
months from purchase. This allows plenty of time for re-sits within the 6
month period, should they need to do so.
Final Written Assessment. The software is designed and approved to enable
delegates to take the final written assessment electronically, utilising the
computer used for study. An invigilator, agreed with ACT, will confirm the
written assessment arrangements meet with IOSH criteria. An invigilator in
accordance with our procedures will need to be arranged by the student at
their cost. The practical assessment, for which an invigilator is not
required, must be conducted in a workplace of the student’s choice. The
practical assessment must be planned to be conducted within 14 days of
completion of the written assessment.
A Practical Assessment facility is included. The package prompts and guides
the user through the steps required to ensure understanding of the IOSH
requirements for successful submission.
The IOSH Managing Safely (CBT) Distance Learning Package is a thorough
integrated software solution offering appropriate reference material
reinforced by effective revision tests and mock examination. Supported by a
manual, telephone set-up and optional e-mail support (by experienced tutors
for 6 months from purchase date, subject to conditions).
