Managing Safely IOSH

Introduction

This course is aimed at Supervisors and Managers who are required to manage efficiently and effectively in compliance with both the organization's safety policy, the safety and health legislation and senior safety and employee representatives from any organization.

The essence of the course is to train the attendee to apply sound management principles to safety and health issues as part of a complete management strategy.

The Course Covers

Managing Safely is structured in eight modules, each of which requires three to four hours of directed study, totaling 25-30 hours (plus the assessment).

  • Good safety management
    • Policy making and planning
    • Quality assurance (auditing)
    • Risk management principles
    • Role of the competent person
  • Understanding why incidents/accidents occur
  • The concept of hazard and risk - Control measures
  • Behavioural factors
  • Legal framework
  • Communication skills
  • Nature of commonly occurring hazards

Course Duration

Four or five days (depending on audience)

Course Certification

The IOSH assessment will be in the form of a written paper. It will consist of a multiple choice test and a short written question paper of no more than 50 questions. There is also a practical assessment carried out in a workplace or related case study.

50% or more must be achieved for both the written and practical assessments. An aggregate of 70% or more overall must be achieved to entitle the candidate to receive a Managing Safely Certificate.
