Oxy/Acetylene Gas Welding (Basic) Mild Steel Plate

Objectives

To train course members in the safe use of oxy/acetylene welding equipment and in basic welding skills.

Aims

  • To make course members aware of potential dangers that can arise by incorrect handling or use of the equipment
  • To be able to weld in the flat position to an acceptable standard
  • To be able to recognize faults and causes
  • To be able to rectify faults
  • To be able to select the correct size of nozzle
  • To be able to select the correct size of filler rod
  • To be able to select the correct bottle pressure

Theory

  • Safety in the use of equipment
  • Safe handling of equipment
  • Personal safety
  • Types of joints in use
  • Correct set-up and tacking procedures
  • Distortion control
  • Care and maintenance of equipment

Practical

  • Correct safety procedures
  • Correct set-up of equipment
  • Correct handling of equipment
  • Set-up and tacking procedures
  • Lap and outside corner joints in the flat position
  • Correct torch and filler rod angles
  • Single run techniques
  • Faults and causes
  • Rectification of faults
  • Correct welding techniques
  • Practice to reach an acceptable standard

Depending on facilities available: Three days onsite
At one of our training centres - five days
