Earthmoving Plant Course

Introduction

This course is designed for potential and existing Earthmoving Plant (Digger/ Loader/Backhoe) 1800, Loader, (Crawler/Wheeled and Skid Steer) with 4 in 1 or standard, Grader, Crawler Tractor (Towed Scraper), Dragline, or Hydraulic Excavator) operators who have received no formal instruction and those requiring refresher training.

Objectives

To train operatives to prepare, safely operate and maintain their machine.

Course Content

By the end of the course, operatives should be able to:

  • Operate their machine safely and up to an adequate standard of output, fitting the site conditions and operating ancillary attachments to the machines.
  • Site their machine safely and correctly in relation to the task
  • Carry out minor adjustments and routine servicing procedures in accordance with the manufacturers and employers instructions
  • Safely load and off load their machine on and off a transporter safely, where applicable.
  • Prepare the machine for use on the public road
  • Safely change ancillary attachments to a machine, where applicable, unless this is normally done by a mechanic or plant fitter.

By the end of the course, operatives will know about:

  • Safety precautions which must be observed
  • The purpose and capabilities of their machine and any attachments
  • How the various working parts of the machine operate, including the diesel engine.
  • How to interpret the information provided by profiles, level pegs, etc.
  • Routine servicing and adjustments and how to do them
  • How to apply the recovery technique to their machines when it is necessary
