Dangerous Parts of Machinery and Guarding - An Overview
Aim
To give an appreciation of the impact and requirements of the Provision and
Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) and appreciate their impact on the
workplace and employees.
Objectives
By the end of the course delegates will:
Be able to recognize the requirements imposed by PUWER and appreciate
their impact
Know the interrelationship between the PUWER Regs and the Health and
Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and other relevant Regulations and advice
available
Be aware of the guarding and fencing requirements for basic types of
machinery
Know the requirements for Abrasive Wheels
Have an understanding of Fencing and Interlocks
Know the need for safe Maintenance systems - Isolation/making safe - Competent
Person - Permit to Work systems and Authorized Persons and Training
Inspection systems and keeping records
Be able to appreciate the need for assessments, systems and record
keeping.
Appreciate the need to keep up to date with changing methods and standards
Have a picture of how enforcing authorities expect the Regulations to be
carried out
