Objectives

To train course members in the safe use of oxy/acetylene welding equipment and in advanced welding skills.

Aims

• To make course members aware of the techniques in positional welding
• To be able to weld in the flat, vertical and horizontal positions to an acceptable standard.
• To be able to recognize faults and causes
• To be able to rectify faults
• To be able to select the correct nozzle
• To be able to select the correct size filler rod
• To be able to control distortion

Theory

• Safety in the use of equipment
• Safe handling of equipment
• Personal safety
• Set-up and tacking procedures
• Distortion control
• Welding technique
• Torch and filler rod control
• Care and maintenance of equipment

Practical

• Correct safety procedures
• Correct set-up of equipment
• Correct handling of equipment
• Set-up and tacking procedures
• Butt, lap, fillet and corner joints in the flat position
• Fillets and butts in the vertical position
• Correct torch and filler rod control
• Faults and causes
• Rectification of faults
• Correct welding techniques
• Practice to reach an acceptable standard
