Health and Safety Awareness for Supervisors

Introduction

Supervisors and first line Managers have significant responsibilities under present health and safety legislation. Recent EC legislation has further reinforced this responsibility. Individuals can be open to criminal prosecution if they neglect their responsibility for the safety of other employees. Supervisors in particular need to be fully aware of how this affects them.

Aims and Objectives

This awareness workshop will provide delegates with a full appreciation of current health and safety legislation and the means to promote appropriate safety awareness in their working environment.

The Course Covers

  • How to relate the basic requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (H.A.S.A.W.A) and codes of practice to their own areas of responsibility
  • How to promote safety at all times and at all levels
  • How to develop ongoing safety training from induction of new recruits to regular on the job training
  • How to carry out workplace inspections
  • How to assess risks and potential hazards
  • How to manage contractors
  • The powers of the Health and Safety Inspectorate
  • How to implement an appropriate accident control procedure
  • How to identify the causes of accidents and the origins health hazards
  • How to take appropriate preventative or remedial action
  • How new and proposed legislation (including EC directives) will further affect the Supervisors role
