Introduction
This course has been designed for any person who has a basic understanding of
the theoretical and practical skills of TIG welding.
Objectives
To train course members in the safe use of the equipment and in advanced TIG
welding skills using stainless steel plate.
Aims
- To make course members aware of the techniques in heavy plate welding
- To be able to weld in the flat and vertical position
- To be able to weld to an acceptable standard
- To be able to recognize faults and causes.
- To be able to rectify faults
- To be able to select the correct current
- To be able to select the correct size of electrode
- To be able to select the correct size and type of filler rod

- Correct set-up and tacking procedures

- Foot pedal and torch control
- Cleaning procedures

- Torch and filler rod angles
- Welding technique
Practical
- Correct safety procedures
- Correct setting of the machine
- Correct use of torch and filler rod angle
- Correct set-up and tacking procedures
- Rectification of faults
- Correct use of foot pedal or torch control
- Fillet and single vees in the flat and vertical position
- Single and multi-run run techniques
- Practice to reach an acceptable standard
