Safe Handling of CFC Refrigerants

Introduction

Protection of the environment is an issue that concerns everyone, particularly those involved in handling potentially harmful substances such as CFC refrigerants. This practical course is designed for refrigeration engineers and successful delegates will be allowed registration on the CITB register of approved engineers.

Aims

To give participants an understanding of the environmental and legal implications of the misuse of CFC refrigerants and to help them develop the skills and knowledge of the procedures involved.

• Legal requirements and recommendations
• Regulations and their effect on users and manufacturers
• Identification of commonly used refrigerants
• Good Refrigeration practice
• Practical competences
• Testing oil for contamination
• Safe removal of refrigerants
• Testing refrigeration systems
• Recharging systems with re-processed refrigerant
• Safe recovery of refrigerant from hermetically sealed systems
• Good housekeeping techniques

Qualifications/ Certification

Delegates take a CITB multi-choice paper (open book) and, if successful, allowed entry on the CITB list of approved engineers. Certificate is renewable every two years.

This is the only approved method of entry onto the register.

Participants will be assessed during the course, those reaching the required standard will receive a certificate of training achievement.
